No. Bank syncing is optional and available on the Pro plan. You can use Steddi entirely with manual entry and CSV imports on the free plan. Many users start manually and connect their bank later when they are ready.
Steddi is a web application that works on any modern browser, including Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Edge. It is fully responsive, so it works on desktop, tablet, and mobile. There is no native app to download.
Bank syncing
We use Plaid, a trusted financial data platform used by thousands of apps, to securely connect to your bank. When you link an account, you log in directly through your bank's authentication portal. Steddi receives read-only access to your transactions. We never see or store your bank login credentials, and we cannot move money or make changes to your accounts.
Plaid supports over 12,000 financial institutions across the United States, Canada, and parts of Europe. This includes most major banks, credit unions, and online-only banks. If your institution is supported by Plaid, it will work with Steddi.
Transactions typically sync automatically once per day. Some institutions provide updates more frequently. You can also trigger a manual refresh from the transactions page at any time. New transactions usually appear within a few hours of posting to your bank account.
Yes, at any time. Go to Settings, find the linked account, and click disconnect. We will immediately stop receiving new data from that institution. Previously imported transactions remain in your account unless you delete them.
Budgets and tracking
When you create a budget for a category, Steddi tracks your spending against the limit in real time. The progress bar changes color as you approach your limit: green when you are on track, amber at 75%, and red at 90%. On the Pro plan, you can also receive email notifications at these thresholds so you are alerted even when you are not logged in.
Yes. Budgets are month-specific. You can set different limits for each category each month, or keep the same limits and let them roll over. The month selector at the top of the budgets page lets you navigate between months and compare your progress over time.
You can create custom categories with names and colors that make sense to you. When adding or editing a transaction, you assign it to a category. For bank-synced transactions, you can bulk-select multiple entries and assign them to a category in one step. Over time, your categories make it easy to see exactly where your money goes.
The dashboard shows an overview of your income, expenses, and net savings for the selected month. Interactive charts break down spending by category and compare income versus expenses over time. You can spot trends, identify your largest spending categories, and track how your habits change month to month.
Data and privacy
Yes. All data is encrypted in transit with TLS 1.3 and at rest with AES-256 encryption. Bank connections go through Plaid, which is SOC 2 Type II certified and undergoes regular independent security audits. Your bank credentials are never shared with us.
For more details, visit our Security page.
No. We do not sell, rent, or share your personal or financial data with third parties for advertising or any other purpose. Your data is used solely to provide the Steddi service. We do not run ads and we do not use tracking cookies.
Yes. Pro plan users can export their transaction history and budget data. We believe your data belongs to you and you should be able to take it with you at any time.
You can request account deletion by contacting our support team. We will remove your data from active systems within 30 days. Some data may be retained in encrypted backups for a limited period as required by our data retention policies.
Billing and plans
The free plan includes unlimited transactions, up to five budget categories, manual entry, CSV import, interactive spending charts, category insights, dark mode, and full mobile support. There are no feature gates that expire over time.
The Pro plan ($8/month) adds automatic bank syncing via Plaid, unlimited budget categories, smart email alerts at spending thresholds, data export and reporting, and priority support. You can start with a free trial and cancel anytime.
Yes, you can cancel at any time from your account settings. When you cancel, you keep access to Pro features through the end of your current billing period. After that, your account reverts to the free plan. Your data is never deleted when you downgrade.
If you are not satisfied with the Pro plan, contact us within 14 days of your first payment and we will issue a full refund. After that, billing is non-refundable but you can cancel at any time to prevent future charges.
